FAQ

  • What is your design philosophy?

We believe that design is meant to be democratizing. All humans deserve vibrant lives, and that starts with their housing. We believe that great design need not be not complex,. And that anyone can do it. It just takes effort and commitment.

  • Can you help develop ideas for my project?

Absolutely. The ideation phase can be the most overwhelming. It can be the most fun and exhilarating, too. We love sketching, and our extensive knowledge of codes (in Raleigh and Durham, especially) allows us to draw things within the constraints of what is possible. Ask about our ”Lunch and Sketch” schematics offerings or, for larger projects, our “Community Charette” services.

  • What makes you different?

There are many skilled designers in North Carolina, but very few of them have built projects themselves. Our principles have decades of experience in designing, building, remodeling, permitting, and developing in North Carolina. We’ve been there. That experience matters.

  • What is your process for permit drawings?

Our bread and butter is bringing you beautiful architecture, and we deliver those services in a formulaic manner. Most processes start with the development of a site plan for your project. From there, we refine the final plan and identify stock plans to match your defined scope. This allows us to budget the development of your construction drawings.

  • Do you work with homeowners?

We do not. We work exclusively with professionals in the industry, including builders, developers, realtors, and land owners looking to create great places. We sometimes partner with other architects, too. For residential custom design, we do have a list of recommended service providers, and homeowners can always purchase stock plans directly from the Allison Ramsey website.

  • Are you availible for speaking engagements?

We regularly speak around the Triangle (and sometimes around the country) on topics ranging from community building to state housing reforms, green building to historic preservation, and incremental development to new urbanism. Contact us to inquire about availability.
